Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is acknowledged as one of the supreme masterpieces of the Western tradition. More than any other musical work it has become an international symbol of unity and affirmation. Yet early critics rejected it as cryptic and eccentric, the product of a deaf and aging composer. Nicholas Cook's guide charts the dramatic transformation in the reception of this work. The story begins in Vienna, with the responses of listeners at the first performance, and ends in contemporary China and Japan, where the symphony has acquired diametrically opposed interpretations. The account embraces many of the major figures of nineteenth- and twentieth-century music, among them Wagner and Schenker. Including an account of the sketches, an examination of the performance tradition, and a suggested new interpretation, this book opens up new dimensions in our understanding of Beethoven's last symphony.

Hoy lanzamos un nuevo proyecto para ser compartido por nuestro lectores y amigos: Una Biblioteca Digital especializada en música de concierto, un espacio público que aspira a reunir los textos de análisis que abarcan desde sus orígenes de la música culta hasta el día de hoy; pasando por las grandes glorias de la música sacra, el barroco, los románticos y las grandes obras y personalidades de la música moderna.
Nos proponemos reunir, para uso de los músicos, los estudiantes de música, las bibliotecas públicas y los melómanos; cuando menos 1,000 libros para descarga gratuita agrupados en un mismo lugar.
Arrancamos con 255 ejemplares, la mayor parte en idioma Ingles por ahora, en el que se pueden encontrar desde los textos consagrados de las grandes biografías de los compositores más conocidos, los estudios de especialistas, las narraciones históricas, las compilaciones de cartas, los libros técnicos, y los grandes tratados.
Hemos decidido dejar fuera solo dos clases de libros: las partituras y los textos de software para músicos. Existen espacios muy especializados ya operando y no se requiere redundancia. (Una sola excepción debida a nuestra s pasiones personales: las partituras de Gustav Mahler, que serán incluidas más tarde solo porque nos es emocionalmente imposible ignorarlas.)
Hemos propuesto a tres distinguidos Blogueros Brasileños considerar la posibilidad de articular una rama en portugués de este proyecto.

Yes, this is a baseball story. If you aren't a fan, some of the passages will go over your head like foul ball, but the thing is, you won't care. You'll be too engrossed in the story. The next thing you'll know, the story will be over and you will feel a sense of satisfaction and completion. This novella is a very fun and very fast read. For sports fans that love King, this book will probably be a dream come true. For King fans that don't like sports... it is a new King story! I'll admit, I don't really care too much for baseball. I know it. I've played it, but I don't watch it. Yet, I still really enjoyed this story. In the end, it is a story about the people, not the game. Yes, the book is short, but you will enjoy it. This is a lot more than can be said for many much longer books out there. Stephen King told the entire tale that he wanted, and ended it where it ended. There are no rabid beasties, Dark Towers, or possessed cars, but you will revel in the telling of this tale as if your grandfather were telling you a story about his childhood (one of the good ones that make all the grandkids gather round). I don't want to give away the plot, but here are the basics. A baseball team loses their catcher. They gain a new one. He is kind of an odd duck, but he plays really well. But... he has a dark secret. Hey, it is Stephen King, you know. That is all I'm going to give you. Buy it and read it. If you like King, you HAVE to get this. I think this book goes beyond King-lovers though. It isn't so... gruesome... as some of his other tales, and I could see people of all ages enjoying this one... well... maybe no under 13 should be admitted without their parent or guardian.

Este es un disco que realiza el sueño mas descabellado y salvaje de todo músico: formar un grupo propio, organizar una compañía grabadora independiente y tocar únicamente la música que adoras. Eso es lo que logro Viktoria Mullova, al articular el Mullova Ensemble en 1994, probarlo en giras europeas de gran éxito durante casi 10 años , y luego aterrizar en la fundación de Onyx Classics UK, y en la grabación de este volumen con el Octeto para Clarinete en F major de Franz Schubert.
Como se sabe, La Mullova es una figura consagrada que reúne las dotes de una virtuosa del violín y el espíritu de aventura que la coloca como personaje de novela. Entre los hechos destacados de su vida se cuenta la decisión de abandonar la URSS y pedir asilo en Suecia en 1983, lo que le permitió ganar ocho años de libertad personal y creativa entre los 24 y los 32 años.
La misma Mullova que dejo sobre la cama del hotel el Stradivarius propiedad del Estado Soviético, la ganadora de los concursos internacionales Jean Sibelius en Helsinki (1980), y la International Tchaikovsky Competition en 1982; la compañera amorosa de Claudio Abbado, es además jazzera que toca música moderna en sesiones de bohemia publica y privada.
Este disco es verdaderamente bueno. Como música es de lo mejor que puede encontrarse; pero como trofeo de vida es más que música.
